Naturopathic Doctors are licensed as primary health care providers within British Columbia, similar to a Medical Doctor or Nurse Practitioner. We are trained to diagnose and treat the most common illnesses and diseases for your whole family. When necessary, we can prescribe medications in BC.
Naturopathic Doctors complete 4 years of postgraduate medical training, studying topics such as pathology and pharmacology. They are also trained in a range of alternative modalities. During their training, there is a 2-year clinical internship. Similar to Medical Doctors, Naturopathic Physicians must write comprehensive professional licensing exams prior to earning their license.
Naturopathic Doctors offer a patient-centered approach. With initial visits of 1.5 hours in length, there is ample opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification about your treatment plan. We focus on educating our patients about their health, and encouraging them to be active participants in their healing.
Naturopathic philosophy is to encourage the body to heal itself and to always try to find the root cause of disease. Some patients seek Naturopathic care not just for acute or chronic health conditions, but also for health optimization and to prevent the onset of chronic disease.
